I was recently asked to do a review on chicken from Zaycon Foods.
Have you ever heard of Zaycon Foods? I hadn’t until I was asked to do the review so let me tell you a little about the company.
Zaycon Foods is a privately owned company based in the state of Washington. The company was founded in 2009 to bring fresh meats and other products direct to consumers at wholesale prices. The founders have extensive experience in sales, business management and the grocery industry Here’s how they can do it (from their website):
My review is on 40 lb of chicken. Yes, I said 40 lbs of chicken. Let me walk you thru the process of how I got my chicken to review. It was sooooo easy! My first step was to visit Zaycons Foods web site and I set up a free account. The owner then credited my account for the price of the chicken. Next was to place the order for the chicken at the next available event in my area. ( the price of the chicken at the time of my event on 11/17/2011 was $59.60 making it $1.49 lb. My local chain store had them on sale with their store card for $1.99 lb) UPDATE on 01/30/2014 the price is $1.89 LB the unit price for 40 lbs would be $75.60 This price is still cheaper than my local grocery 2 years ago lol
I drove to the event and I waited in line in my car. When it was my turn I handed the gentleman my receipt he asked me to popped my trunk and he put the box of chicken in my trunk for me. I didn’t have to lift a thing. Soooo easy!!
The chicken arrives looking like this:
The chicken is delivered in its original wholesale packaging, a water-resistant cardboard case containing three or four plastic bags of fresh chicken breasts. The smaller bags are typically sealed in a larger plastic bag. The smaller bags are not uniform in weight. There will be small amounts of naturally occurring liquids (i.e.,”chicken juice”) in each bag and case. Chicken breasts typically come in double-lobed pairs (“butterfly”) and will have small attached amounts of fat.]
I was so excited when I got home to see what the chicken looked like. To be honest I was expecting tiny little pieces Boy was I shocked! Each piece was beautiful and huge!
After splitting each butterfly breast in half I had 38 beautiful breasts weighing a little over 1 lb each and they are not thin pieces these are thick meaty chicken breasts! Because this wonderful chicken is s 100% natural chicken with no added hormones, additives or artificial ingredients and comes fresh directly from the farm and has never been frozen I immediately took out my food saver and set to work preparing them for the freezer. I saved 1 breast for dinner. Which I used for chicken parmigiana. (1 breast was much more (they are huge) than my son and I could eat for one meal so I had leftovers the next night ) WONDERFUL!! I would definitely buy this again and the price cannot be beat.
However the chicken events are not the only events they have. They also sell (depending on your area and the event) 40lbs of Ground Beef, Bacon, Turkey, Pork, Fish and Fruits! I can’t wait for the next event happening in my area! Would I buy from them again? You betcha I will be first in line at the next event!
